At Family Office - How to Position It In Interview for Reason to Leave?

Hey guys,

How would you position being at a family office. Basically right now things are slow, but I am looking for an active firm over the next few years coming out of this as opportunities come up. Family office is slow and has opportunities outside of real estate to invest their capital in while I sit on the RE side not closing on anything as it doesn't make sense compared to safer returns in the market. Also, decision making process is slow/far removed and firm has established portfolio.

I know people say stay, but let's say I had to leave this month what's the best way to pitch to an active RE firm looking to hire? I was thinking hey they have many alt investment opps why RE, but then the firm I'm interviewing for may think ok then why are we investing in RE and they're not. I get there's other reasons like cost of capital and timeline with funds but without knowing their capital base at new firm.

REPE firms have specific mandates to invest in real estate and typically don’t play in alternate vertices. They’re the expert in that one space. Looking to actively focus on real estate is a good reason for the transition.
