Masters in Real Estate: Europe

I am a rising senior at H/Y/P interested in real estate development. I am looking to get a masters in real estate after graduation from undergrad to build my technical skill set and make myself more attractive to employers. I ultimately want to work in NYC. Considering how much cheaper tuition is and my interest in exploring Europe, would it be a bad move career wise to get a masters in Europe? How are European degrees looked at by NYC employers? I have been looking at the ESCP MSc in real estate program. Would greatly appreciate any feedback or suggestions. Thanks!

Do NYC firms not respect European degrees? I am looking to boost my technical skillset and travel through Europe while the job market improves. Will a European degree hurt me more than help if the cost doesn’t matter?

I wouldn't say it'll hurt you but my 2 cents is that employers look at people coming out of these programs with no experience basically the same way they look at people coming out of undergrad.. the main benefit is the networking and the on campus recruiting and you lose a lot of that benefit from being abroad. If you were trying to live in London it would be different.

Now if you were to just say I want to hang out in Europe for a year without a huge hole in my resume I'd say go for it 100%. You definitely won't regret doing something like that. But just be sure you're being honest with yourself. This is not the best action you can take to get yourself a job in New York.

Obviously US schools would be easier for NYC but Cass places quiet well in London and is more of a “pre-experience” program. Worth checking what their NYC network looks like on LinkedIn.

Short answer is do your MSRE where you want to "practice" RE. Longer answer: the internships and externships opportunities granted by those local programs (from local contacts, references, co-workers, relevant experience, known companies in the market, etc.) will go a long way in getting the perma-position in the subject locale. All that stated, I would reach out to as many alumni of that European program in NYC before you apply or attend and test the strength of that network as it could be a non-issue (and there might be sufficient contacts to get you where you want to go).
