I hear a lot of realtors talk about the importance of a good investment sales team in Toronto, and in fact in any city. However, in my experience I have not really seen any teams that stand out. This is not the case when it comes to top tier firms in Toronto such as CBRE, Avison Young, Colliers, etc. All three of these firms seem to have an outstanding team when it comes to investment specialists and associate brokers.

Yeah, it's very important to look at the actual investment teams. Colliers lost their team to Institutional Property Advisors, they're currently rebuilding their team. Their team in Montreal represented the buyer for the Royal Plaza earlier this year. Avison's Capital Markets team isn't necessarily weak but in terms of the cream of cream trophy assets CBRE and RBC handle most of them. TD Securities, JLL and IPA are also quite strong in the sub 100 million single assets.

Here is my ranking:

Tier 1: CBRE NIT (Peter Senst Team)

Tier 2: RBC, TD Securities

Tier 3: JLL (Matt Picken's Team), BMO Capital Markets, IPA (Scott Chandler, Bill Pitt, John Stewart)

Tier 4: Colliers Capital Markets (Lucas Atkins)

Beyond on that there are some good brokers at colliers, Cushman etc and they only tend to focus on one asset class such as multifamily, industrial etc or smaller scale deals.
