Best Masters in Real Estate Programs

Hey guys,

For people interested in Real Estate, which school/program do you think is best in terms of academics, network, and prestige? I am personally interested in Development but want to hear all opinions on these top programs and if they have a particular edge.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Columbia University London School of Economics University of California, Berkeley University of Southern California (USC) New York University (NYU) Georgetown University

You won't go wrong with any of those you listed as well as a number that you didn't.

My best advice would be go to school near where you want to work.

Want to end up in NY? Don't bother with USC.

LA? Don't go to LSE

Unless you already have very strong ties with the city you want to work in, go to school near where you want to work. Dividing the NOI by the cap rate isn't rocket science. You want to be spending your time networking and interning as much as you can.

Similar to the comment above. I’d say make your pick based on where you’d like to work.

I’d also look into which programs (if any from your list) require you to complete the program FT or whether there’s optionality for PT. The work experience while in said programs are crucial, especially if you’re a career pivot with no RE experience.

Also leaning heavily towards going to get my MSRE/MRED. Giving myself a couple of years before I do so.

If you think you want to do it, you should just do it.

I approached getting my MRED as one would approach getting a MBA and I ended up one of the two oldest in my class and incredibly bored with 90% of what I was taught because I already knew it. It's a different type of degree.

At Georgetown right now, feel free to PM me with specific questions. I'd echo what everyone else is saying, USC for west coast and Columbia for east. I did Georgetown because it allowed me to continue to work in development while getting my degree, but it’s a great program.

Hey! So I am torn between Georgetown's program, Cornell (2 yr full-time) and Clemson University(FT or PT option structure similar to Georgetown). Not sure if I want to end up on the east coast (upper or carolinas) or Iowa (where i'm from and have good connects already). I currently work remote as an architect and am torn if I immerse as a FT student in a program like Cornell and get the most comprehensive education or work during my degree program and grow in my current job more (that I currently enjoy). Clemson would be more in terms of a nice city to live in while pursuing the degree.
