Best play for military -> REPE or RE DEV

Background: West Point grad, Combat Arms officer looking to get into Real Estate in Austin or Dallas in about a year.

I'm trying to find the best play to make this happen. I've heard MBAs are always a good route but from my understanding work experience matters more in RE.

I know the market is rough right now with rates but what would be the best routes to breaking into CRE Development or REPE acquisitions in a couple years?

I've heard JLL (formerly HFF office) in Austin produces good results and Eastdil in Dallas but from my understanding both have structured recruiting timelines and internships.

I make about 100k right now and I'm willing to take a pay cut but I'm concerned I'll be cutting it too much for family obligations if I don't get a solid job from the get go.

Any advice on making the transition?
