Blackstone RE interview

Recently applied for the Blackstone Real Estate Portfolio Management Summer Analyst position, completed the pymetrics assessment and completed the digital interview. Feeling pretty strongly about my chance of an invitation to a superday. Wondering what kind of questions they ask in real estate superdays?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some common questions you might encounter during a real estate superday interview:

  1. Fit and Behavioral Questions:

    • "Walk me through your resume."
    • "Which skills are you strongest at and which do you need the most improvement on?"
    • "What interests you most about real estate?"
    • "What are you most passionate about in real estate?"
    • "What product type do you prefer and why?"
    • "What would you prefer spending your time doing?"
  2. Technical Questions:

    • "Walk me through a DCF valuation on an asset."
    • "How do you find an appropriate discount rate?"
    • "What is the value of a pro forma?"
    • "Explain DSCR Floor for GSE Financing."
  3. Market and Industry Questions:

    • "What do you think about the state of the market right now?"
    • "What trends do you see impacting X asset class in the next 5-10 years?"
    • "If you had $100MM to invest in real estate, how would you invest it?"
  4. Case Studies and Problem-Solving:

    • Be prepared to discuss past deals, including any difficulties you overcame or specific market insights.
    • You might be asked to walk through a case study, such as a valuation or an investment decision.
  5. Analytical and Logical Thinking:

    • Interviewers may test your analytical knowledge and financial market knowledge.
    • They might also assess your fit with the team and your ability to work long hours.

Remember to speak thoughtfully and knowledgeably about particular asset classes, markets/submarkets, and why you would put capital there. Good luck with your superday!
