Boomer/Gen X vs Millenial/Gen Z Work Environment

Was thinking about this today and wanted to hear others thinking. The type of culture that most analysts/associates are looking for vs what most VP and Execs are looking for is vastly different.

I'm a 25 year old 2nd year Development Analyst here's what I find me and other colleagues my age are looking for in a work environment- More of a blend between work and life. We don't want to sit in an office from 8-6 M-F for 40 years. My company never went remote, so I've done it for 2 years couldn't imagine doing this till I'm 60.

In person meetings are essential sometimes. If I'm presenting a model to execs, I want it to be in person. I do believe building true rapport with clients/co workers occurs in person. However, my workload today would be much better remote- compiling new tax assessment data and running a model. Really I think the answer is going to a hybrid schedule. I don't think a fully remote role is ideal, especially for buy-side stuff. I feel like moving up the ranks at a company as a young analyst is difficult if you're fully remote.

Also don't really agree with this fixed working from x to x time during the week. At a company I interned for in Australia, you could work in the office from 7-11AM, go for a surf for 2 hours, then WFH till 7PM (assuming you had no mid day meetings). Also, some weeks are busier than others. I don't have 9 hours of work everyday, yet I need to sit in my office all day when I only have 4 hours of work. Some days could probably work 11 hours.

The ability to work flexible hours makes it easier to run quick errands during the day. Many businesses are 9-5, I've had to take PTO to run quick errands which I find ridiculous. Also makes it easier to take long weekend trips. Could head to the mountains Thurs-Sun, do a hike from 7-10AM, then work rest of day.

The argument I've heard against this work lifestyle is that it makes it more difficult for managers to manage their employees. It requires more trust that your employees are actually putting in 100% effort. You can't have your eyes on everyone all the time etc. But many young talent are going to start demanding this from their employers, which we're already seeing.
