Brokerage Analyst lateral to REIT/Capital Markets team

CRE Community,

Currently an analyst at a regional-dominant brokerage firm with +10 offices nationally. I love my asset class and the company I currently work for, however I do not foresee myself moving up to the brokerage side. It is my goal to hopefully move into an analyst role within a capital markets team or at a REIT (with the eventual goal of moving into REPE--however further down the road). Education background is in Finance/Economics major. I wanted to reach out and see if anyone had strong advice for things I should be working on getting under my belt to make the transition into one of these types of groups. I do not believe financially that a graduate program could be in the cards for the next couple of years, so am seeking more short-term advice in regards to this.

Was considering taking a REFM course and passing the SIE/other licenses that do not require sponsorship just to show general proficiency in some aspects of the financial side of the business (if the latter would even help). In addition, what angle do you think I should play in order to bolster my candidate profile in terms of job transferability or viability to make this jump? Any specific networking tips? Open to any and all suggestions. Thanks.
