Brokerage in a different market

What are peoples thoughts on working at a brokerage firm my final summer of college to get experience in the RE world knowing that my goal (plan) is to live in a completely different state after I graduate.

Is this a waste of time? Would I be better off working in a different field of RE? Should I give everything I got into getting an internship in the market I believe I will end up in.

What would your alternative be? Hard to tell without more information.

In general, any experience is better than no experience, and brokerage experience at a good shop will set you up for success. Of course, you'd ideally be in a market you plan on working in after graduating, but the skills you'd pick up over a summer are almost 100% transferrable. And if it's a larger brokerage, you can ask about full-time opportunities with the same company for your target market after graduating.

I want to move back to Houston after college (which is where I’m from). Currently go to a big university in the Midwest, I’m in the interview process with a couple companies in Houston for development, acquisitions, & brokerage (still trying to figure out my long term goals lol). I have an offer at a local brokerage which would be easier for living and I know I would learn a lot.

Just curious how beneficial it would be for me to get that experience and network in Houston if I landed a job there.
