Brokerage right out of college
Is starting my career out in investment sales right out of college a bad idea? I have an offer from a company that specializes in net lease deals in the $1MM-10MM range and I’m strongly considering it due to the income potential along with my desire to end up in brokerage. I’m torn between the traditional analyst route and the brokerage route. Some insight would be appreciated.
It's not a great idea haha I did it myself and I highly recommend the analyst route. Truthfully, you're income potential is $0 for several years. It can be fun and rewarding but if you go the analyst route you will have plenty more options down the line. You can do middle market nnn sales anytime you want to, that offer will always be there.
The best decision I ever made was to start doing brokerage in college. It was tough for the first few years and then I started to crush it
Did you have a base salary during that period?
No but I wouldn’t change anything.
It’s all about how hard you are willing to work. I would take a good look at the brokers you are going to work for and see if that is the type of lifestyle you want. NNN is not brain surgery and I know a number of folks pulling in $300K+ who aren’t very talented.
