Capital Markets (Debt/Equity) Comp Expectations
What sort of comp expectations should I be expecting within debt and equity placement at a large shop in a market like Dallas? I know it’s all bonus dependent but the ranges I’ve seen have been widely varied. For a 1st year analyst, where do you think a good standard ballpark range is and what kind of progression should I expect after that?

Depends on what shop you are at, but if you are at one of the big/top shops in Dallas ( CB, JLL, Eastdil, Newmark) then your total comp should be at/above 100k your first year. That said, when and if the market turns, your bonus will be affected.
I don’t know about comp at any of the other brokerages (C&W, Northmarq, etc.).

You should be taking home over $100k year one. Hard to say YoY but yes in theory your pay should increase each year. No one will be able to tell you by how much though.
I started my career doing d/e at a smaller(ish) player and continuously took home over $150k/year ... this was in nyc though
I work for one of CBRE/JLL/Newmark on a debt and equity team in a similar market to Dallas. Here was my pay progression
Starting out of college: $70k with $5k bonus
Year 2: $78k with $20k bonus
Year 3: $83k with $20k bonus (down year)
Year 4: $90k with $50k bonus
If this is accurate then this seems very low from what I have heard.
Year 1 bonus is absurdly low, Christ.
When I was in cap markets brokerage a couple years ago, it was more like a 70/30 split between base and bonus for juniors. That split leaned further towards bonus as juniors started getting higher % of deal tips.
Something like $70k base $30k bonus to start would be very common. Some larger shops have an analyst bonus pool outside of deal tips as well.
