Capital One Agency Multifamily Finance Exit Opps/Pay etc

Hi all,

Does anyone have any insight in to the Agency Multifamily Finance team at Capital One in NYC? The role would be CRE Credit Analyst. I am curious what the group's reputation is and logical exit opps from here? Also what does the comp, hours and culture look like? Is it fairly easy to transition to equity down the line?

Thanks for any help.

I did not work in Capital Ones Agency group, however worked at another agency shop. As long as you are transaction focused, you would be able to move to any other transactional role in real estate, regardless of debt, equity, brokerage, valuations etc. Real estate is a very small industry and once you are in it, you can pretty much move around as you want, as long as you can back up your personal story and have a genuine curiosity for the space. I am sure comp and hours vary heavily by shop, however I never worked more than 45-50 hours a week, very frequently less than 40. Comp was mediocre at best, I wouldnt expect to make 6 figures your first 2 years.

Agency was my first role out of college and I could not have asked for a better experience. Everyone always wants to get to the equity side, which I can get, however when starting in your career working on a debt side makes much more sense. You are underwriting 10x more deals on the debt side, and using/learning agency standards will give you a good idea of how to think of a deal. If you can get exposure to bridge lending, then that is even better, because you will have more exposure to varied business plans.

If I could offer one piece of advice... If equity (acquisitions) is your end goal, you should know that if you do not like debt, you most certainly will not like equity. The work is 95% the same, with the only difference being the modeling.

thanks for your response. That clears up a lot of my questions.

Do you know how Capital One ranks relative to other banks in the agency lending space? They are a top 10 MF lender so obviously they are doing the volume but not sure if there is any tangible difference between them and other shops?
