CRE Banking to IB REGAL

Hey guys,
I recently accepted a position for CRE banking analyst at a well positioned bank. I’m really excited for the role because of the learning opp and the team but I know I don’t want to do it forever. Long term I’d want to go to a top REPE company but before then I want to take a stab at IB REGAL. Does anyone know how difficult it is to lateral from cre banking to ib regal and what that process looks like? This is my first job out of college so I’d appreciate any insight.

Hey there! Congrats on your new position in CRE banking. It's a great field with lots of opportunities to learn and grow. Now, about your question on transitioning from CRE banking to IB REGAL, it's not unheard of, but it can be a bit challenging.

The process typically involves networking, gaining relevant experience, and showcasing your transferable skills. You'll need to build relationships with people in the IB REGAL sector, which can be done through networking events, LinkedIn, or even through connections at your current job.

In terms of experience, try to get involved in projects that have some overlap with IB REGAL. This could be anything from working on deals with real estate components to taking on additional responsibilities that align with the skills needed in IB REGAL.

Finally, when it comes time to apply for roles in IB REGAL, you'll want to highlight your transferable skills. These could include financial modeling, market analysis, or deal structuring, among others.

Remember, every journey is unique and there's no one-size-fits-all approach. It might take some time and effort, but with determination and a strategic approach, it's definitely possible. Good luck!
