Credit funds back office role looking for career advice
Hello folks,
Great posts here and I'm looking to get some career advice.
A little about me - I am currently a fund accountant in a top PE firm. And it happens to be the top REPE as well. I did build some connections with executives at RE group even though I am in a different group and doing fund accounting.
Previously I was at big 4 RE audit group and got exposures to RE transactions and valuations and started my interest in RE industry from there.
Currently I'm considering to switch to RE industry and hope to get more exposures on deal underwriting, due diligence, market feasibility, etc. My long term goal is to doing RE investing on my own (deals with larger scales not just buying multifamily properties).
I have talked to some folks in RE industry and understand it's almost impossible to switch to the role I am interested in with my fund accounting background. So my plan is to go to big 4 RE transaction advisory and study part-time at NYU MS in RE (re-branding). And I will continue networking using all the available resources.
What do you think of this Big 4 RE advisory +part-time MS in RE plan? Would that help me to eventually switch to REPE and work on more front office roles?
Any advice is appreciated!
Without knowing anything else about you, yes that sounds like as good a plan as any given your point A and point B. I've had a friend or two who got poached out of big 4 RE advisory (one went from EY to Tishman). Maybe others with first-hand experience on here could opine. The masters may not even be necessary. And you may get some zealots on here telling you it's as easy as cornering Jon Gray in the elevator and convincing him to move you to the front office... it sounds like you're aware of your limitations being in the accounting department though. Good luck
Thanks for your response!
Would appreciate if other folks have more advice?
