Ask a specific question and you will get better responses. They are a debt group focused on higher yielding origination opportunities - construction, non-performing loans, whole loans, mezzanine debt. Probably a good opportunity, may is probably market and consistent with the corporate finance group. They are fairly under the radar though and I don't see them come up often, I only know a little bit because a friend works over there.

Special Sits at a large lender like DB is a great opportunity, at least from my perspective in the cre lending space. I have worked with these guys and have competed against them for deals. If you want a well rounded experience and you possess skills which allow you to pick up knowledge quickly and apply it on the run... this could be the spot for you. Bottom line: special sits in most banks is prestigious, and says something about your capital markets and cre knowledge.

Hey guys,

I'm interviewing for an senior analysts / junior associate role at DB's SSG, so I spent a couple hours going thru the threads here about SSG but only found very limited info about DB's SSG. Seems most ink was spilled over GS's SSG...

On DB, would you shed some light on the group? How's the culture / day-to-day work look like? Competition-wise, how does it compare to its equivalent at GS or MS? How's the exit opps? Interview tips? Any modeling tests? etc. Thanks a ton in advance for any information. Sincerely appreciated!!

Thanks buddy. I'm referring to the SSG group they have under S&T. Any thoughts to share re this group will be highly appreciated!

I would imagine the special situations group in S&T is still sell-side and comes up with non-traditional trading opportunities for hedge fund clients. I don't have much knowledge though and maybe they have some way of making bets with DB balance sheet capital if that is still possible...

Hanover Street is a Situs platform used by DB to hire employees off balance sheet and therefore save overhead costs (legal, accounting, etc) that is allocated to their headcount. Also really allows them to lay people off swiftly without headline issues. The main functions are Asset Management and servicing of their CRE balance sheet loans, but a lot of the front office staff in CMBS/securitization and SSG are also Hanover employees as far as I know...

Also interested - if someone can highlight the difference between SSG (IBD side I think?) and 'structured finance' (which sits in markets, but alludes to SSG-type situations) it would be appreciated.
