Do any of you work in the consulting space?

I've been in the industry for 9 years but left my last role in the spring of last year for a variety of reasons. I was doing asset management and development for a majority of that time and have been trying to segue to a new role since fall of last year with not much success. I've recently come across an opportunity to work 1099 in a consulting/service provider space for developers and landowners. Think surveys, engineering, utility consulting, permit expediting, etc.

The prior company I worked for was a developer that did small developments and the owner just f*cked up too many times. Many projects became a disaster, leading us to making zero or even losing money. Ultimately, the company was becoming a toxic mess because of it which is why I jumped ship.

I'm heavily considering moving my career in that direction thinking it should be lower stress, bigger market, and the timeline for earned fees is shorter and likely guaranteed (i.e. consultants in projects getting paid first while the development team is lower on the list).

Curious if any of you have done something like this? Obviously the common route is the other direction but with the way the market has been just thought i'd put the question out there to see what others are doing or thinking.
