Fired as an analyst?

What are obvious performance related issues that will lead to an analyst getting fired? What are the signs that you may get fired? I really don't think I'm at that point but I've made mistakes on things that have been sent to clients a few times. I've corrected the mistakes soon after/before a response from clients, and my boss has never talked to me about it, but I feel like that is very bad.

RELAX! The worst thing you can possibly do is freaking out and being harsh on yourself. Everybody makes mistakes, including your boss.

Experience will help you figure out which part to concentrate your time and energy on. Right now, you're just all over the place trying to make sure everything is correct, which is normal. Just take a deep breath, keep your cool and double check your work. Ask others for input and for them to give it another set of eyes before sending anything out. The rest will figure itself out.

When stressed out, just remember, none of the mistakes you make will cause your company to go out of business. It can't be that bad.

This is a classic new analyst feeling - you read about how terrible it is to make mistakes and when you start your career and make a bunch you think it's the end of the world. It's not.

It takes most people around a year to actually get comfortable in their job and learn all the different steps and checks to take to avoid making major mistakes. You WILL have work product go out with errors in it, it's a fact of life, take it in stride and don't make them again. Even once you're fully settled in, things are still going to go out with a mistake from time to time, you're human, you just need to minimize them and make sure there are no major dealbreakers being missed.

Think about it, you're working on spreadsheets with thousands of numbers in them for 8 hours minimum a day. Nobody can get that right 100% of the time.

Honestly, I can only think of examples of analysts getting fired for essentially slacking off on the job, showing up drunk/high, or just being a total shit head (immaturity). Mistakes are expected to be honest. The fact that you catching/finding them, owning up to them, and correcting them even after being sent to clients would actually earn you high marks in my book, seriously, that is really mature/smart.

Everyone makes mistakes, up and down the line, how you handle is what matters. If your work was so sloppy they had an issue, they would tell you.

How does one know if at risk.... they keep talking to you about work issues and they go uncorrected!

Not to scare you as I agree with what everyone else is saying. There are firms out there that really just don’t give a s#%* about you and will get rid of you without notice. Unfortunately it’s a fact of life in this industry and the professional world in general.

Point being is that sometimes it doesn’t even matter and you can still get axed, so no point in worrying about it. Just do your best job and that’s all that really matters.
