FT RE Investments and REIB Recruitment Canada 2025
Would greatly appreciate anyone's insight on what the timelines of recruitment processes look like for real estate investments and real estate investment banking in Canada for 2025 graduates. Specifically interested in learning more about the pensions (CPP, Oxford, QuadReal, PSP, etc.), Big Five Banks, and some of the bigger REPE shops and developers (KingSett, Slate, Tricon, etc.). Definitely a broad grouping, but would appreciate anyone's insight even if not included in the list above!

Most of these roles I’d say >75%+ are all going to be done through networking and informal processes and conversations. Your best bet is to be reaching out to as many people as possible and maintaining your connections. Many of these roles also hire on a “as needed” basis meaning the processes will be less structured and may be happening closer to your graduation date.
Thanks so much for the insight! For the other 25% is there a sort of timeline to expect to an extent? Im hoping to plan things out a bit so that I time the networking and everything as best as possible.
No problem. Unfortunately not because there’s no set timeline for real estate. Some postings might find their way to the school portal sites (usually smaller firms looking for 1-2 analysts) but even then, they’re going to get a lot of apps and interview a lot of people from a bunch of schools.
I hate networking as much as the next person but it’s really the only thing you can do. You’ll be surprised how most of the guys know a lot of people even at the analyst level. It’s a tough process out there but a large amount of people in the space are getting jobs through networking / informal conversations. Even LinkedIn postings may not be actual postings with the candidate already selected. Don’t feel discouraged if don’t have anything lined up until closer to graduation, it’s just the way the industry works.
Thanks again for the detailed response! Luckily I’ve been on the networking grind for quite some time, so hopefully by the time I get around to grad I’ll have something lined up.
Temper your expectations - the Canadian market sucks. You may need to spend a year in AM at one of the above-listed firms or work for a smaller shop in AQ/dev before lateraling
Haha, definitely appreciate the reality check. Do you see anyone moving into the above roles out of grad if they have relevant internship experience in those firms?
