GIC? Comp, culture, etc. for Associate
Does anyone here have any insight into GIC? There’s no position posted or anything I’ve just been curious looking through LinkedIn.
Anyone have insight into their associate pay? Would it be ~150k base and 150k bonus? From my understanding that’s the corporate PE comp
My understanding is pay is great, deal experience is one of the best and hours are long. I interviewed and got rejected. Know your deal sheet cold and be ready to talk through the “why” of the deals and be ready to do some finance/math/brain teasers
I applied to their associate AM position back in July ish and never got a response :(
They said that - looking for a specific candidate
I would steer way clear of GIC. Comp: not as good as other PE firms who do similar work, especially given the hours expectations (80-100 hrs/week) - also no upside since it is an SWF; Ridiculous interview process: probably took 150 hours of my time for modeling test / case study, prep, going through all of the different rounds; Culture: cold and not fun, know someone who worked here and gtfo'd as fast as possible.
What were the case studies like if you can share?
I helped a friend with the case study and it was the longest and most open-ended case study I have ever seen. It was a multi-day take home test that required building a full, thorough, multi-tab, dynamic model from scratch and then an IC memo. Pretty sure she had to present to several different people afterwards.
Did you get any feedback? :)
Did you make it to the super day? I took the case study but haven’t heard back yet if I’m moving on to the next round. What you’re saying makes me question if I should even hope to advance in the process…
How long did it take for you to hear back after initial screens?
Those hours make no sense with comp + being a SWF lol
They were just awarded global investor of the year by PERE, possibly for the second year in a row? I'm not saying that to d-ride on rankings - but you definitely don't get that award by being a sleepy sovereign.
They’re not a normal SWF. I work in REPE and we compete with them on tons of deals. They’re doing massive mezz, pref, equity, entity level deals
Hi! Is there any kind of materials you could share on the case study? Thank you sm in advance
Keep in mind that GIC is not a direct RE investor. They just allocate capital here and there to direct investors such as KSL, Greystar, Rockwood, Prima etc....
They're more screening/approving GPs' deals as they have discretion as an LP. No sourcing/deal structuring happenning here.
Yes they're a LP, but they're not "passive" ones like some pension funds. They work on deals worth billions, ofc there's a lot of involvement on the deal structuring side, especially for corporate deals (e.g. the acquisition of the share in The Student Hotel/TSH).
At my last gig we had a large JV between my shop as GP and GIC / CPPIB acting as LP. It was exactly like any other large, institutional REPE shop. We did about $4.5bn of deal volume, mostly through large portfolios.
I have heard that the interview process is grueling (as others have said earlier in the thread), no idea on comp. All the junior team members I worked with are gone, but all the seniors are still there.
Hey does anyone have more information on the Special Opportunities group?
Interviewed with the ISG team, entire team there is cold as hell, in particular an old director there, she gave me attitude from the start . Team in London is cold as hell , avoid at all costs.
Helpful, did they let you take bathroom breaks during the interview? Or did you just have to piss at your desk
Can you elaborate? Did you speak with the US team as well?
