Had phone interview with a REIT yesterday

I'm a broker in SoCal.

Had a nice phone interview with a REIT down here. They made it pretty clear that senior level positions are something I'm going to have to prove myself to get despite my experience. Which is fine...

They basically said I'd come in on the Asset Management side. I'd be working with brokers on various aspects of leasing, disposition, etc. We all agreed that the goal would be to get me in to the Acq side where I'm better suited once my modeling skills are up to snuff. They're getting there.

Should know by Friday if I'm getting a sit down.

Single guy in NYC here.

Had a turkey sandwich for lunch. Cajun style--Harris Teeter made it pretty clear their direct brand was marked down 10% relative to the Boar's Head stuff. Which is all good...

Basically I like the cajun turkey because it adds an element of spice to the sandwich. It pairs really well with condiments like mayonnaise, dijon mustard and white onions. Eventually I'm going to try and transition to the Boar's Head roasted turkey once I really get a feel for the cajun taste.

Will keep you guys posted as this situation evolves over the next few weeks.

Please keep us updated. Although, I think Boar's Head is well worth a 10% mark up depending on the overall cost. You should definitely acquire a better understanding of taste modeling then transition to Boar's Head. That's just my opinion though.
 

it's not just the "modelling" that you need to nail down..i hope you also understand M&A accounting and fundamental accounting concepts to properly understand what you're modelling. Also, you have to be adept at reading and understanding security agreements across the cap structure. Excel does not equal expertise in acquisitions...hence why most of these roles are filled by IB/PE guys with relevant academic backgrounds and MBAs...i don't see how a broker without the technical understanding of the concepts can succeed, but tha'ts just me...

 

I've been a broker in my market for 15 years. My contacts at the institutional level are solid. I'm firmly aware of what they want and expect from me. I don't see most of the Acq roles filled by IB or PE guys. Maybe that's the circle you run in and that's why you see it more often that way. Acq guys go into brokerage and many brokers go into Acquisitions.

As far as the phone interview and how that happened. I've been communicating with their Director of Acquisitions since Feb. He knows my skill-set. When the firm posted a job that could get me in the door I asked him for a contact. He forwarded my info to HR. They emailed me and we set up a phone call.

I don't apply online through job posting sites.
