Helping an analyst with their “5 year plan”

I’m an analyst who’s been working at an office REIT for a year. Office gets a lot of crap but we have been doing alright. But I’ve been trying to figure my path. I know how bad the job market is rn so I’m planning on staying put for a year or two.

I like where I’m at but don’t like how I’m siloed into one asset class and one way of investing in that asset class. I’m on calls with capital markets brokers a decent amount (IS and D/E) and think their gig is pretty cool.

Some people give brokers a lot of crap but the capital markets level seems very interesting. It appears you’re exposed to various different investment groups and learn how/why they invest. I feel like these types of positions give you a great network and knowledge of how companies invest so if you want the make the transition to ownership you know what type of firm you want to be at.

Please tell me if my perspective is wrong and I should just at some point transfer to a different job on the ownership side. For background, I didn’t go to a top school so transferring to a big PE shop would be difficult. And if I liked capital markets brokerage and was doing well I’d have no problem staying.
