In a strange situation. Need advice.
So, I am in a bit of a pickle. I recently graduated in May and don't yet have a good CRE job lined up. I do have one offer and waiting on another one. The first offer is not related to real estate, it's a recruiting role (tech recruiting) that I randomly got but it does pay fairly well (70-100k all-in). It's in NYC which is where I want to be but don't know if it's a good idea to take it because all my previous internship experience was in CRE (IS brokerage). It is sales related so would that matter if I build up some savings and switch over to becoming a broker a little down the line? I did have other offers from other brokerages but they were 100% commission and that is not possible for me at the moment sadly. This is a longer path because it is: recruiting -> brokerage -> MAYBE development. MSRE would be something I'd consider as well if need be.
The offer I'm waiting on is a property management role for a local developer. Development is my long-term goal. The pay is lower and it's in the Philadelphia area (which is...fine). Would it be better to take this offer instead if I get it? Logically it makes sense since I am closer to my goal but would like some advice here.
Do you have any immediate need for cash or can you hold out longer until a CRE role hits? Not the worst, but may be hard to explain why you took this if you really want RE..
That's my worry as well. At least the prop management is related. The recruiting role while well-paid and I can be in the city may be kind of difficult to explain.
I would advise against taking either one of those roles. It will paint you as a NON “finance” real estate professional. Keep grinding for full time and see if you can get an internship to hold you over.

It's only been two months, you probably have up until 6 months after graduation to really look. Are you reaching out to alumni weekly to get on calls? It's a tough time it seems there are a lot of roles out there, but other firms are cutting back.
Yes, networking as much as I can. Seeing some traction but it will take some time before I have anything secured. We'll see what happens but hopefully, I can get something in the next couple of months.
Maybe look at masters programs at backups, NYU closed for the Fall but Columbia's app is due January. Others available as well may be the path with the way the market is going,
I am curious how you ended up in this situation. Did you not secure a return offer or do any FT recruiting in the Fall/Spring? The job market for analysts was red hot then. Not trying to hate or anything just super perplexed.
It was my fault. Just didn’t focus where I needed to. My original plan was to be a broker but that fell apart (won’t get into details) and by then it was already May, so I’ve been looking ever since.
Message me, please. I want to help you
