I've been let go by my company. Need Advice.

WSO

Normally I wouldn't do this but I was let go by the company I work for this week during an interesting time in this part of the economic cycle. I want to make sure I put my best foot forward during this search because I've been laid off one other time in my career for 9 months and that was tough. With that being said, here is my elevator pitch

HBCU undergrad and University of Miami MBA graduate with a concentration in real estate and finance. I've worked in commercial real estate for almost 8 years. A bulk of my experience has been in market rate and affordable housing development. Although my career has been development based, I've had brief stints at a top LIHTC equity syndicator as an Equity Underwriter. I also had a brief stint at a P3 development firm, that focused on military housing, student housing, infrastructure, as a Finance Associate

Before being let go, I was a Development Manager for LIHTC development group in the Southeast. During my time there I helped successfully acquire APRA funding, secured bond allocation from local city governments, assessed feasibility of sites for the GA QAP.

After reading a little about me, I have to ask two questions.

1. Does anyone know of any opportunities in Atlanta that may fit my skillset? (DM me if you want to hear more)

2. If real estate isn't my path going forward, what other sectors of the job market should I explore?

Thanks in advance,

Mamba Out

I would stick with LIHTC and other subsidy development. Why did they let you go? Just a clash of personalities? I would think affordabke housing would be one of few not cutting down.

They said two mistakes that were talked about in passing. No formal discipline or warning, just something talked about in passing for less than 5 mins. I had two great review before I was let on go on what was supposed to be my annual review. Only thing I was thinking before the review is what I need to focus on to get a promotion. So yes, I guess it was just a clash of personalties. Offered severance for more than 1 month but don't know if I'm going to sign because of the restrictions.

With that kind of specialized experience, go out on your own.  It is going to be a shit 6 months, but you can get into the LIHTC and game you will be fine.
