Based on previous WSO threads, here are some insights on JLL's asset management team:

  • Team Dynamics: The performance and reputation of JLL's asset management team can vary significantly by location. For example, HFF's Austin multifamily team is considered strong, while JLL's team there is not as highly regarded.
  • Merger Impact: The merger between JLL and HFF has led to some uncertainty. In some locations, teams might merge or operate independently, affecting job security and team dynamics.
  • Responsibilities: Asset management roles at JLL can involve a range of tasks, including tracking major capital events, leasing activities, and developing tenant relationships. These responsibilities are crucial for ensuring the fund's performance.
  • Learning Experience: The role can be a valuable learning experience, especially if you are involved in sourcing acquisition deals, providing underwriting support, and understanding the interactions between properties in a portfolio.

If you are considering a role in JLL's asset management team, it might be beneficial to research the specific office and team you would be joining to understand their strengths and dynamics better.

I used to work on this team but this was pre-HFF merger. I thought the experience was valuable as this was my first job out of school. Learned a lot about the industry and how to analyze properties, lease renewals, financial statements, draw requests, etc.

A big name like JLL will certainly have people look at your resume, and it's up to you to sell the experience you had there. I've since exited to the buyside so the opportunities are there.
