Keep 6-month CRE Job on Resume?

I know this has been asked across the site but I would like to get feedback specifically from the RE group.

Last fall, I joined a large bank's risk management team, focusing on CRE. I took this job for many reasons (and could be its own post), but realized early on this is not a good fit. I toughed out a few months but as I enter month 6, I am 95% out the door ... I recently accepted a new role at another large bank, doing what I expected to be doing at my current bank.

So, the question is, do I keep this short stint on my resume? Fwiw, I received a title bump and my current bank is definitely within the top 3. Plus, even in my short tenure, I've been a part of a couple notable transactions that I can speak to on my resume.

Edit: for further context, I have 6+ years of experience, with me being at my previous role for 4 years.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, keeping the 6-month CRE job on your resume can be a strategic decision, especially given the following factors:

  1. Title Bump and Top-Tier Bank: Since your current bank is a top 3 institution and you received a title bump, this can enhance your resume's credibility and demonstrate upward mobility in your career.

  2. Notable Transactions: If you were involved in significant transactions during your short tenure, these can be highlighted to showcase your impact and contributions, even in a limited timeframe.

  3. 6+ Years of Experience: With a solid 4-year tenure at your previous role, a 6-month stint won't necessarily raise red flags, especially if you can articulate a clear and professional reason for the transition during interviews.

  4. Avoiding Gaps: Including this role helps avoid a gap in your resume, which can sometimes be viewed negatively by recruiters.

Recommendation:

  • Keep it on your resume: Highlight the title bump, the prestige of the institution, and the notable transactions you contributed to.
  • Prepare your narrative: Be ready to explain the short tenure in a positive light, focusing on what you learned and how it led to your new role, which aligns better with your career goals.

This approach ensures you leverage the benefits of the role while addressing any potential concerns proactively.
