MBA Advice - Cornell 1-Year Full-Time MBA vs. Indiana Part-Time MBA
From past responses on this forum, I'm going to assume the response to the below question is to network and land a job in the chosen field then get the MBA at Cornell few years later.....but had to ask the question anyways.
Graduated in 2015 from Cornell University with a Bachelor's in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Currently enrolled in Indiana's Online Dual Degree program(MSF/MBA) and am going to complete the MSF portion May 2018. Currently working full-time for a Construction Manager in NYC and I aim to work for either a developer or an acquisitions analyst at a PE firm. I recently acquired the ARGUS Enterprise Certification.
Should I: -#1: Upon completion of the MSF in May 2018 network into the new position for either a developer or an acquisitions analyst at a PE firm and totally disregard the MBA? -#2: Similar to Option #1, but complete the 1-Year MBA at Cornell after 2-3 years of relevant RE experience and before my GMAT scores expire? -#3: Similar to Option #2, but rather than complete the MBA at Cornell, complete the online MBA at Indiana?
Appreciate all the help!
I'd probably say a combination of options 2 and 3. Your MBA is another "pivot" that you can use that you don't necessarily need right now. Your MSF can get you into an acquisitions analyst role right away and if you want PE after, you can use the MBA as a pivot if you don't get in.
Thank you very much for the advice.
CRE Can you perhaps provide some insight? I notice you are the aficionado on this forum.
More when it comes to MSRE or MRED programs, but I wouldn't spend another year (and go another $50k or whatever in debt) if I could help it. Having a masters degree in development already makes you a bit overeducated and having two could be overkill. It's never going to hurt you, but you just don't need it.
Also, as OttoReadmore said, you can always save that MBA trigger for later if you need it.
