Moving to a New City
I’m in my first year as acquisitions analyst at an amazing East Coast shop. Getting lots of experience and learning tons. I plan on staying at the firm until I hit my two year mark or so, and then I’d like to move back to the West Coast. How does one set themselves up to land a role in a new city? Should I wait longer than the 2 year mark? Any advice would be helpful.
Keep a resume with the new location online
Actively network with people based in the future city
Look for jobs posted online in that region alone
Track corporate websites for openings, find out who is who in that field in that town
This may also work for other countries/continents.
When sending resumes for opportunities in a new city is it advised to have that city in your resume? Or is it fine leaving your current home address/city.
There is no need to have any address on there at all, generally speaking.
In this case, I normally sprinkle the target city across my resume. It's up to you if you want to put down an imaginary address as well. I have done that also and nobody cared (I put NYC when I lived in Los Angeles).
This should be OK, but be aware that reference checks may include the office address. If a company has multiple office locations, I don't think it would be such a big deal.
