MSRED Application - 320 GRE Score?

Hi everyone! I just gave my GRE and scored a 320 (162 Quant, 158 Verbal). Really want to get into MIT and Columbia MSRED programs for 2024. I have 3 years of work experience in architecture and a strong undergrad GPA (though I'm an international applicant who is not from a top 100 design school). I was wondering if my GRE score is not competitive enough for these programs? I can take it again in a month, and am quite confident that I can bring my score up by a few points by refining my review.

Is anyone here familiar with these programs? What do you think?

By the way, I know MIT publishes the mean scores of successful applicants (155-160) however I was thinking that applicants with more experience may be bringing the average down. Perhaps for my profile, which is on the younger side, adcoms are expecting higher scores? Meanwhile, I'm just on the 65-77th percentiles for quant and verbal.

Would appreciate any advice! Thanks!

Hey there! Congrats on your GRE score, that's a solid achievement. Based on the most helpful WSO content, your score seems to be within the range of successful applicants for the MIT and Columbia MSRED programs. However, it's important to remember that these programs look at the whole package - your work experience, undergrad GPA, and personal statement, among other things, also play a significant role in the admission process.

As for your concern about being on the younger side, it's not necessarily a disadvantage. Your work experience in architecture could be a unique selling point that sets you apart from other applicants.

If you're confident that you can improve your GRE score, it might be worth giving it another shot. But remember, it's just one part of your application. Make sure you're also dedicating time to perfecting the other components of your application.

Good luck! You're on the right track.

Your GRE scores are competitive for MIT and Columbia MSRED programs, especially with your strong work experience in architecture. Focus on showcasing your expertise and achievements in your application. While higher scores can strengthen your profile, a holistic application is crucial. Consider retaking only if confident in a significant improvement. Emphasize your unique qualifications to stand out in the selection process. Best of luck!
