MSREDs - Outside of the MIT/Columbia/NYU/Georgetown

Ya'll-

Currently looking into MRED/MSRED programs like half of the folks lurking on this subforum, is there any particular reason why schools outside of Columbia/NYU/Georgetown/MIT/USC/JHU are never mentioned other than the fact that AdventuresInCRE has the writeups? I did a quick google search and Duke's got a program, Harvard within GSD, and higher end public schools like Georgia Tech have one. Is there a particular reason why these are never mentioned? Haven't taken the time to comb through all top 50ish schools but I'm sure there are more out there.

If there are any alumni from other MRED/MSRED programs, care to share any insight? The usual career development, was it worth it, what you learned, etc.

I am also looking heavily into MBA's with RE emphasis and MSRED programs.

I really like Harvard's program. The only drawbacks are that it is a lot less well known because it is an MDes rather than labeled as MSRE/D. MIT is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) and places really well. NYU and USC are very strong and rather large and place well- very well known on both coasts. Columbia seems to place very well and is a marginally better brand than NYU/ USC. Georgetown is popular because it can be 100% online and part time.

The others are less talked about because they are a lot more regional. Clemson does well but is mostly known in the South. Florida does the same for the South. Pepperdine and UCSD do well but almost exclusively in the West Coast. UC Berkeley does well but is newer and less well known.

TLDR: The other schools are very focused on regional. Harvard is new and weirdly named. The rest are the ones you hear about.

Do not worry about this at all. It is Harvard.

I'm also very curious about the Harvard program and would appreciate if anyone has more insight to this. For me being in hotels, I think Cornell would be my best bet, but NYU for a year is also a compelling pick. I'm pretty torn between the three.

Cornell's hospitality program is rather legendary. You need to go visit these programs, talk to the people running them, talk to students in them, and go with what feels right.

Same boat as you. Hospitality is my thing. I know there’s a lot of talk here with not wanting to be pigeon holed but I know I love hotels. A lot more creative design there (for the higher end, dealing with “Hampton Inn Model 27B” just bores me)
