ORIX Real Estate Capital

Does anyone have any insight into what ORIX Real Estate Capital is or does? It just seems like a fancy commercial real estate loan business, but I'm new to real estate and do not really understand.

Here is a quote from their website of who they are: "Effective January 1, 2019, Lancaster Pollard and RED Capital Group merged into one company called ORIX Real Estate Capital (OREC). OREC provides comprehensive capital solutions for multifamily, affordable, seniors and health care real estate through its affiliated companies. The lending businesses of Lancaster Pollard and RED continue to originate business under their existing brands and maintain their sector focus, with Lancaster Pollard dedicated to seniors housing and health care and RED committed to multifamily and affordable housing. The OREC companies originate $4 billion of loans annually, with a servicing portfolio of $25 billion. OREC’s services include:"

They have internship applications open and it seems interesting, but I do not really know what they do. Do they invest in real estate or give money for others to invest in real estate? Any help would be awesome.

If I eventually want to go into investment banking, do you think a internship at this place would be worthwhile? I already have an IB offer at a regional boutique bank and am wondering if going for this opportunity would better my chances of getting into a BB or EB?

If you want to go into RE full time do the RE lending role as they are top notch. RE acquisitions or REIB is an underrated path imo. For IB it’d be better to go with the boutique.
