Portfolio analyst
Curious on people's thoughts on portfolio analysts in real estate. Been looking at roles, seems very involved in valuations and cross department coordination of results. How is this position viewed in the RE industry? Currently working in accounting, looking to do more investments/front office. Wondering on exit paths/where career path can go. Thanks for any insights.
Generally, Portfolio Management is somewhere in between Acquisitions and AM although it can just be another word for Asset Management sometimes. Normally it involves analyzing new deals and their impact on fund-level cash flows and developing a yearly/quarterly investment strategy, etc.
You'll do more actual analysis in PM than in AM, and it's a pretty cush job. I went from Acquisition Analyst to PM Associate early in my career and really enjoyed PM.

I've been trying to make a sort-of-similar switch and I'd say try to make the pivot into front office sooner than later. Just a heads up (personal experience) based on what some recruiters have sent my way, make sure you read the details of the job and ask the right questions about the role.
