PTO in RE
What is your PTO in RE?
Example of my situation:
Position: Analyst
Field: Development
PTO: 10 days
If you have any other interesting set up, like unlimited non-paid time off, let us know. If there are any other interesting perks you have, that would be cool too.
20 days PTO 4 personal days all the holidays can also purchase 5 days and rollover 5 days every year as many sick days as you want 20 days backup care per kid tuition reimbursement cover your closing cost for 1st home purchase
First time I have ever heard that- that is a really cool perk!
It is actually genius, unless the employer is selfless, I think the idea is that the home purchase locks the employee into the job. Less turnover expense. I am probably over thinking it. Maybe just a nice perk. From reading the other benefits, it looks like the employer is just a good person, interesting.
Is this srs?
21 days PTO + all normal holidays
20 days PTO 1 floating holiday + all normal holidays unlimited rollover (sick days only) unlimited work from home
+%+%+%+%+%
25 PTO Normal Holidays Can work from home if sick 12 weeks paternity leave
10 Vacation 2 Personal 8.5 Sick
Use it or lose it
Companies with grade school attendance policies like these make me cringe.
I'm at work when I want to be and take off when I want to take off. No one keeps track of it because they have better things to do and trust me as a professional not to abuse it.
This.
PTO is idiotic. This is a business where there is a lot of money in play. You are always on call. Not cause you have to be, but cause you want to be. If that's not your mentality then good luck. In consideration for one's commitment and dedication to their craft, one is afforded a loose leash with respect to PTO.
My thoughts exactly. I get 10 days PTO but they don’t mean shit. I have to work when I have work to do. I don’t dare not respond to an email just because I’m laying on the beach somewhere. This is CRE and those deals won’t close themselves.
What's the headcount at your company?
When I worked for a smaller firm this was the policy. As the company grows and HR policies need to be put in place this type of system doesn't work as people get butt hurt when they see coworkers taking more time than you are.
Unlimited PTO policy doesn’t work at big company either, say Netflix
When you have unlimited PTO, people end up taking less days off. But when you have defined benefit such as 18 weeks maternity leave, everybody takes 18 weeks off, and btw 18 weeks maternity are standard at pretty much all banks now, and some tech companies offer you 6-months maternity leave
100+. We are segmented. Investment/acquisitions teams are afforded more leeway.
An accountant doesn't network, read applicable literature, etc... once they leave the office. Investment guys work tirelessly to perfect their craft and make sure they're up to speed on the current state of markets. As such, if I'm in cabo for a a few days and don't take PTO it's prob cause i.) I will respond to emails/continue speaking with my peers and ii.) I've put in an an uncountable amount of hours of "extracurricular activities" so you're damn right I'm keeping those PTO hours for when i actually want to (can) disconnect).
Just the culture here... Maybe that ain't right but whatever.
Definitely this.
Also, and this is a personal pet peeve of mine... if you're taking vacation, announce it ahead of time and then turn your phone off. If you've left everything in order, no one needs you to be answering emails from the beach.
Agree with this. Even though I'm at a large company with formal HR policies, no one actually gives a shit how much you take off as long as you deliver and get your work done. I have no idea how many "formal" days I have. I just email my boss when I have a trip coming up and let him know I'll be out of pocket. I've been at my current job for about 9 months and I think I've taken close to two weeks already. I will never again work for a company that actually tracks your time - did for my first job and that experience was a joke. Makes you feel like a child. Excuse me sir can I go on vacation please! Fuck that lol.
Out of curiosity, how much do you think you normally take?
Second Year Analyst - 17 Days + 3 Sick Days
14 days.
But would get looked at funny if I took it all.
I get looked at funny if I try to take any of my 10 days! ha! but the job is cool so...
17 days PTO 5 sick days All other typical US holidays, and just got two extra days off around Christmas and New Years
12 accrued vacation days per year
1 bonus vaction day per year of service (earned on 1/1 and capped at 10 days)
14 sick days (bankable)
Option to convert 5 sick days per year to vacation after 5 years of service
3 Personal days (use it or lose it)
12 Company Holidays
Pres usually closes the office for another 5 days per year
The Waterfall of Vacation Policies
You can tell there were some deal people negotiating!
10 Accrued Days PTO Handful of Sick days (~1 wk?) All major holidays
After reading how liberal some of these are I feel like an idiot for not using time-off as a negotiating point in my recent review..
Position: Analyst (right out of college) Field: Development (Secondary Markets) PTO: 10 days 6 Sick Days, but that's more of the written rule, manager will allow as many as I need as long as I don't abuse it.
I’m on production, so both zero and as many as I want is really how it goes for PTO. I send an email to my boss, say I’m out from x to y, and we go from there to figure things out. I might not get paid on something that happens then, but I would have been following anything that I would be paid on all the way to the finish line.
Analyst level at UK developer
25 days PTO
Normal holidays
1.5 extra days at Christmas
Option to buy 5 more days
Option to roll over 5 days
wow.... that is a dream...enjoy that ... especially in Europe! lots of easy travel.
Can i Pm you about recruitment and entry salary position for Uk based analyst? Thanks a lot!
Agreed - seems legit. I'd imagine if I was in a similar situation I'd be doing a lot of 3-4 day weekend trips.
PTO is idiotic. This is a business where there is a lot of money in play. You are always on call. Not cause you have to be, but cause you want to be.
I would say that is true for some associates, but mostly after associate. When you are compensated in large part by promote, or when you have skin in the game alongside others in the firm, PTO is silly because you are invested and the business results impact you. You can write your own checks as far as PTO is concerned because the assumption is that you are value add. Until we can be value add (to the degree above), us juniors rely on PTO to maintain sanity.
EDIT: Are you making the argument that you do not think PTO is worth taking because you might miss an opportunity?
Haha this guy is a bot. It just copies and pastes other peoples responses.
Ctrl + F anything from his comment
Officially I have 10 PTO which is ludicrous. Unofficially, I take like 20-25 but I'm basically always on call. Spent all Christmas even and Christmas day working on an RFP some dickhead made due the 28th.
Just to echo what most others here have said, after a certain point with all the extra crap if someone ever tried to enforce 10 days on me I'd lose my shit.
I actually find it a bit of a turnoff when hiring companies talk about it now, I'm a big boy and get my work done. That's what you should expect from everyone regardless of their level. I tell my analyst all the time I don't care if it takes you 20 hours or 120 hours a week just get your work done.
Woof. What a prick.
Out of principle I wouldn't even look at that deal.
20 PTO Days and 14 holidays
Like most people have indicated here, there are no set hours. No one is punching the clock when I'm with investment sales brokers til 2am or when I'm in the office multiple weekend days...so some days I'll leave at 3, take an unannounced Friday off. Really, no one cares if you're getting your stuff done.
