Real Estate Twitter - “RETwit”

I’ve followed a few accounts for a while and enjoyed some of the content. But it’s become increasingly more “shyster” in my opinion. Some of these accounts position themselves as master of the universe types, when in fact they have small, niche businesses versus, for example, some of the global firms represented on this forum. The part that makes it feel crooked is that the most popular RETwit influencers are professional syndicators who leverage their Twitter presence to raise new retail $$. Their Twitter brand became a low cost distribution/marketing platform to finance their deal flow and charge fees.

I’m not the cynical type, but does it not seem odd that these ‘incredible’ real estate principals would choose to run syndication shops and create a cult of personality for themselves - when in fact, historical investment performance is almost never discussed at all? Rather, the appearance of being a good investor is what the system rewards vs the actual track record of it?
