REPE/IB in Montreal

Any monkeys here that can shed light on REPE/REIB world of Montreal? Not from here but looking to get my MBA in Montreal and was curious about the market/job prospects/comp. There’s only so much that can be accomplished via google, and I have started cold calling firms to get some boots on the ground intel.

Not a ton of options in either REIB or REPE out of Montreal (same deal for Vancouver), most large shops in these categories are headquartered out of Toronto. That being said, lots of great developers and a couple pension funds are headquartered there, and lots of smaller family offices and owner/operators.

Bear in mind if you're going to one of the well known Montreal schools (HEC/McGill) you can easily go get a job in Toronto after. That being said, agree that Montreal (and Vancouver) lifestyle is WAY better. Toronto sucks.

REIB/REPE-wise, RBC has a notable team out of Montreal but it's on their brokerage team, not traditional REIB. I'm sure a few of the major REPE players have satellite offices there (maybe Fiera?). Limited selection.

Pension Funds - Ivanhoe Cambridge head office is in Montreal. Believe PSP has a large satellite office there as well.

Development - Broccolini is the biggest name out of Montreal for sure. Also have Claridge, Mondev, Canvar, and COGIR. Aside from Broccolini, not big names nationally but they are good regional shops.

That is super helpful. Thank you. I would really rather not live in Toronto. Montreal is the place where I would want to be. It sounds like it is not totally hopeless, and there are enough options that can lead to a successful career.
