Seeking Advice: Balancing a Full-Time Role & Building a Real Estate Business

I recently started my first role out of university at a major real estate developer backed by a Middle Eastern royal family, with a significant deal pipeline and strong capital support. The exposure has been incredible—I’m involved across the full development cycle and work closely as the right hand to the head of the Australian arm (direct mentorship).

At the same time, I’m eager to build something of my own. I’ve already set up a company focused on sourcing, amalgamating, and managing off-market development sites across various asset classes: residential, drive-through QSR (pad sites), medical/health (childcare, disability), and petrol stations. My goal is to offer a full-service solution in identifying, structuring, and managing high-potential real estate opportunities.

My key question is: How do I structure this legally while working full-time? Has anyone successfully done this while managing a full-time role?

  • What should I be aware of in terms of non-competes, conflicts of interest, and disclosure?
  • How have others successfully navigated launching a side business while in a role then exiting once successful?
  • Any advice on managing relationships in my current role with industry professionals, vendors, and my employer while running an independent venture?

Would love to hear from those who’ve done something similar or have insights into launching this properly.
