Switching from top 10 IS commercial brokerage to a CBRE, JLL, C&W

How to go about this if you have no connections at the brokerages? Do I reach out to the VP/MD's on the team saying I'm working at  brokerage looking to make a switch? Not many alumni in IS at these firms. Any advice from those who have done it before? Focusing on middle market investment sales at these firms.

Got it, problem is my team doesn't have a ton of sales ($100MM a year, senior isn't super driven or helpful) and I haven't sold anything. What are your thoughts on going into an analyst position at one of these shops? I'm early 20's so a few years out of undergrad. I like being a broker, but am trying to get a brand name on my resume and either see more deal flow as a broker/or as a analyst to get real world Excel experience. End goal is development, but this seems to be a necessary step for a year or two to get there especially in this market. Thoughts?

I would agree that going for analyst roles at established shops/teams is probably a good move, at least if you want to do brokerage for sometime. If you really want to work in development, going to work for a developer seems the next step (I mean, why two-hop if you could go direct?).

Either way, applying for open jobs, but really networking within the industry are the moves you should make. It sounds like you really need to just "go to market" and get the best deal forthcoming and offered (as in, you probably cannot game this too much).

Not sure your overall profile, but I would work on learning the excel modeling (and Argus) now, don't wait. A lot of people in your situation will use MSRE/Ds or even MBAs to make the jump.... it's an option (expensive one to be sure) and competition is doing it.
