Real estate is one of the biggest wealth generators. Minorities have had barriers for years trying to learn the ins and outs of investing and achieving ownership. Seeing the barriers in real estate today is especially problematic because the same companies who are trying to partner with diversity programs to make themselves look good are also doing sketchy recruiting practices behind the scenes.
Again, that applies to almost all industries. Minorities don't have an easier time at white shoe law firms or top investment banks either. It's a societal problem, not a commercial real estate problem.
This industry is old-school/traditional and juniors are treated like shit. Accept it. Play the game like the rest of us. There’s no cushy corporate environment waiting for you, so if that’s what you seek, then yes you’re in the wrong field. Go be a consultant. Sucks but it’s true for me too.
I don’t disagree with everything you said - real estate is an old boys club of white men- but I am telling you that your attitude is definitely part of the issue. The challenges you outlined are not unique to real estate.
Look at it this way— this is the best time to recruit for roles as a minority— ever, period. A lot easier to blame others than it is to grind out apps, network, and change your attitude. Sounds harsh but I am truly trying to help when I say that.
For sure this is one of the most old boys club industries around today, but frankly "micro aggressions, unprofessionalism, and fake diversity" are going to be present in just about any corporate environment.
They are going to be ESPECIALLY prevalent in any high stakes, high stress, high paying industry (real estate, IB, PE, big law, etc.) given those areas attracting type A personalities and being highly competitive/eat what you kill.
If you don’t mind me asking, what is your current role? I’m currently trying to break in to real estate so am a bit concerned with some of the comments here

I'm betting every corporate job has "micro aggressions, unprofessionalism, and fake diversity." Hardly unique to commercial real estate.

By sketchy, do you mean hiring their kids and relatives?

Very fair response. 100% agree.
