I don’t think this is uncommon during lulls like this. What’s the alternative? They don’t want to pay you to literally sit on your ass until fed pivots or prices drop to something reasonable
Sounds like you have a pretty big chip on your shoulder. Welcome to the real world, where things aren't perfectly linear and you have to learn to adapt.
It isn't like there are a bunch of super active teams you could jump to right now, pretty much everyone is on the sidelines. So unless you plan on being unemployed for a while, my advice is to make the most of it and learn whatever you can to make yourself a better acquisitions person later.
Actually dig into AM and see what mistakes acquisitions people make that AM is now having to triage/fix. Learn about loan documents and how your financing either makes or breaks your deals. Learn about development.
You are what, 24 years old? Hardly a rainmaker that your firm absolutely needs to keep/keep happy.

You implied that you are being treated unfairly/badly for being asked to help out AM while acquisitions was slow. You literally called it an unofficial demotion. That is the definition of having a chip on your shoulder.
