What Should You Check Before Bidding on a Tax Deed Property?
I’ve been researching tax deed investing and noticed that the auction price is only one part of evaluating a property. Before bidding, it seems important to verify that the parcel number and legal description match the actual property and then review the available title records.
Another area I’m trying to understand is surviving liens and other obligations. Mortgages, judgments, municipal charges, easements, code violations, and certain tax-related claims may need to be researched separately depending on the jurisdiction.
I’m also interested in how investors calculate their maximum bid. Repair costs, title work, legal expenses, taxes, insurance, holding costs, and the intended exit strategy can all change the actual economics of a deal.
For anyone experienced with tax deed investing, what do you normally verify first before placing a bid?
