Where to learn modeling skills for real estate?

Hey,

I am wanting to join a real estate firm on the development or acquisition side. Most of these positions require the applicant to understand how to put together excel models on deals. My University never taught anything of the sort, so I have tried picking it up through Breaking Into Wallstreet, but I don't feel like it is that effective for real estate.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go for information? I am willing to do anything to learn what I need to learn to get one of these positions. Thanks

Real Estate modeling is bizarre, though usually more to the point. Pretty much you're just constantly trying to get to a cash figure, basically the entire point of coverage on the IBD side in real estate is modeling yield on FCF. For something niche-y, I'd imagine you'd want to try to join a bank's real estate team. You'll definitely pick it up there.

I second Khar. He is really excellent and a modeling vet.

I recall there are 3 classes available (note the dates as the industry has changed a lot over the teaching periods, but the fundamentals apply and you cannot beat free): see classes for Real Estate Finance I,II & II at that site.
