Where to put CRE Cert on Resume
I recently completed a Cornell CRE cert, where should I put it on my resume. I was thinking under education under undergrad, but people I've talked to said that's misrepresenting it by putting it there. It clearly says "Commercial Real Estate Certificate" with the time period (3 months). Any thoughts, friends have told me people from the school that graduated undergrad/grad from Cornell would be offended I put it under my education.
I don't necessarily agree, it's from the school and using the name because it's prestigious but I also completed the certificate program.
As long as you clearly state is was a certificate program, no harm in adding it under your undergraduate education line
and do you think it's misleading saying it's "Cornell University, X Business School, Commercial Real Estate Certificate". They said it was acceptable through the program (eCornell)
Yes that would be misleading IMO, you didn't go to Cornell's business school. I would put something like Cornell Certificate in CRE - eCornell Program. Don't act like you actually took classes at Cornell unless you did. I saw a guy on linkedin change the university that appears under his name to Cornell after doing a certificate program there...looks pretty silly when you scroll down and realize he didn't actually go to Cornell
If, for example, you do the UCLA Extension and take a few classes in person and a few online, I think it would be acceptable to use something like what you wrote above.
!!!!!
On a side note, do programs like these help candidates trying to break in stand out?
I'm looking at commercial brokerage right now then transitioning to development. It's come up in conversations, some people think it's impressive. I usually explain it during the conversation as something else I'm doing, showing innovative to sign up for programs outside of undergrad education. Especially since I didn't have an RE/Finance background (which is why I'm doing this).
I think it's impressive, wish you all the best.
