Company information on resume?
Is it acceptable to add a small (one line) description of my company if it is a small IB boutique?
Since it is so small and its name doesn't imply that it is an IB boutique, I am very tempted to include a brief description of it. One line, as mentioned before.
If it is alright to do this, where should it go? Right after the company name or as a bullet point?
Thank you.
Wouldn't your position at the firm (IB Analyst, associate, whatever) be enough to let the reader know that it's an IB? I'm not sure on best practices in this area, but I would think that it you add a description to this line item, you would have to add one to any other companies you worked for or else risk seeming inconsistent.
I apologize, I did not mention it was for a summer internship. I was thinking of adding something like:
"XYZ is an investment banking boutique that provides strategic advisory, M&A, and capital raising services to middle market companies."
Thoughts?
It seems logical, but to me it seems like it could potentially devalue the firm in the eyes of the reader by affirming that the place is so small/obscure that it needs an introduction. Instead I would just say that you were an investment banking summer analyst/intern thus implying that the firm is an IB and if the reader is interested in the company or wonders why he/she never heard of it they can google it and make up their mind that way. I might be reading too much into this though.
As mentioned above, why don't you just put "Investment Banking Summer Analyst" under the company name. Wasting precious space with that generic description
Good responses, @"CorpFinHopeful" and @"HFer_wannabe".
I have always heard that plain "Summer Analyst" is better/ more appealing. However it might just be the solution to my dilemma.
Also, wouldn't it be okay for people in PE, VC, PWM, etc. to do the same thing? i.e.:
"Private Equity Summer Analyst" "Venture Capital Summer Analyst" "Private Wealth Management Summer Analyst"
Are these also acceptable?
I would think that you should somehow indicate what type of SA you were, I mean even within one IB you could have been a summer analyst in anything from IB to S&T to PWM. Even some BO roles have summer analyst programs. I might be totally wrong on this, but it just seems logical to me this way.
+1
