Guys,

Please tell me what you think. I am at a PERE shop right now, and the shop's primary focus is buying RE debt. I do not think I want to be in RE long term and need to get out before I pigeon hole myself. I have been there for almost two years and have some decent deal experience even though the firm is smaller MM ($100-$300MM). I like corporate PE and ER as career prospects and am still trying to gauge how realistic those routes are for me at this point.

How does my resume look and how can I maximize my chances of getting into a MM PE shop?

seriously though, trim that shit down. you don't need 6" white space up top, paragraph responsibilities, wtf does 'emphasis' mean? either it's your concentration or relevant course work. wtf is an investment house? you mean real estate? you really need someone to go over this thing, it reads like 50 shades of pale.

If the glove don't fit, you must acquit!

Not as refined? Don't you have an MBA? I would say you know better than many members here.

One page. Make sure you quantify everything. I'm not sure if you quantified everything because I didn't read it. It simply doesn't flow so I don't want to read it. You want it to be inviting, easy to read. People don't spend a lot of time looking at one resume because they get so many. You need to draw their eyes through it and make something stand out to them. Think about that.

When a plumber from Hoboken tells you he has a good feeling about a reverse iron condor spread on the Japanese Yen, you really have no choice. If you don’t do it to him, somebody else surely will. -Eddie B.

It's a little verbose. The content seems fine, just cut it to one page. You don't get it to two pages unless you have widely diverse experiences over a long period of time. I've seen plenty of traders with 20 years of experience with many firms that still fit it on one page. You never, ever go 1.5 pages.

3-4 words to describe a position name, location on the right side (include city, not just country). Then underneath one bullet point for summary (2-3 lines), followed by only 3 bullet points, no more, which describe 3 projects you have undertaken / 3 achievements at that job (2-3 lines per bullet point). That should help cut your CV down to 1 page. You're just trying to make a job seem more important by adding more information on it. You should only add a couple of points then if you want to expand on what you've done, you'll get a chance at the interview. It's not a novel, it's a short summary, so keep it short.

Right on. I appreciate your guys' wisdom. I think you are right mmoldo that I'm trying to make it sound more important by talking more, which is just gabbing at the end of the day and serving no functional purpose. To be honest with you, that probably stems from the fact that I'm a bit insecure and perhaps I'm trying to over compensate. I rolled right into my MBA and always wondered what it would look like if I had gone the traditional route, worked for a few years, and gone to a target instead of a state university. I don't work in NYC and have always held those guys on a pedestal as "better" or "smarter".

Now based on the content, if I can clean it up and present it better, do you think any of the experience is transferable or will it be tough to get out of RE. I'm hoping the CFA helps.
