Incoming Freshman Consulting Resume

Hi!

I'm looking to go into management consulting after I graduate from a target school in Canada, and I want some advice on tailoring my resume for freshman internships next summer. I'd also love to hear what kind of freshman internships would be most effective for someone in my position.

Thanks.

  • Since you haven't really started ugrad, it's ok to have your high school still on, but you should consider removing that ASAP
  • Duke of Ed is a prestigious award, but as you drift closer to the top end of the age bracket (closer to 24 than 14) you should consider removing. Also, no need to list twice (in academics and interests)
  • Your resume looks good for someone just getting into university, but my advice would be if you are interested in consulting, you need to make sure you have a near 4.0 GPA
  • If you are really focused on consulting, start strategically planning your extracurriculars and how you want to spend your time at Uni

Thanks for the advice!

I will definitely remove the high school soon. In terms of EC's, I was planning on starting a Private Equity and Venture Capital Club. I have a few friends working in that field so I would most likely be able to get them to do talks/presentations/etc. Would this be something that's worthwhile?

That's fine, but if you want to go into consulting why not start (or join) a consulting club? I think ugrads think "starting" something looks good, when I'd rather see meaningful participation (President of Consulting Club, Winner of Case Competition etc.).

I'd love to join one, but since my school is a 2+2 program, only upper years are able to join the consulting club. Do you think the pe/vc club might turn off recruiters because it's not directly relevant to consulting?

It might. Although I think some MBB shops (Bain comes to mine) encourages their alum to pursue ventures and other opportunities as part of their exit strategy, so it depends I think.

I would suggest getting to know the upper years and get their advice. What did they do in their first years if they couldn't get into the consulting club?

Most of the upper years who are interning at MBB did some kind of entrepreneurship or wealth management in freshman and sophomore year. I'll try and do something like that. Thanks again for your help.
