Light up my resume!!!
Currently in the valuation group at a big 4 looking to make the move to IB. Posted on here a few weeks ago, got some feedback and made a few turns since. Looking for some more feedback regarding content on the revised version. Don't hold back. Will SB good responses. Thanks.
Bump
Bump, appreciate any help guys.
willsmith as a caveat I am not in IB (currently in Business Development/Strategy). I have reviewed resumes as part of recruiting efforts for an O&G company so I'll go ahead and offer my .02.
Your experience you've listed for Big 4 needs to be simplified and broken down. All I see is a big paragraph that can be broken down similar to what you have in the Midstream MLP experience description. I would use the STAR method (with modifications) to quickly highlight what you were tasked with, what you did, and result.
Agree with @redrage You need to condense all those work related bullet points to short and simple one liners. Just put the info which you think will be relevant for your evaluation.
Appreciate the comments. I'll work through them later this evening after work and post an update after. Feel free to shoot out any other suggestion/tips you guys have.
willsmith here is an example pulled from your resume:
"Analyzed 2 year historical pipeline pressure data for single region and created trending reports to help predict future pressures."
This is a decent start but for me personally I'd like to understand why this is relevant. What are you trying to convey here? Are you trying to showcase that you have skills in data analytics?
If possible you could say the following:
"Analyzed pipeline pressure data and developed forecast tool to identify trends in Central Asia which improved pressure prediction accuracy by 40%."
This may not be possible but coming close to this is insightful because it tells me that A.) You can analyze technical data and draw meaningful conclusions and B.) You can develop ad hoc tools which can be used to accomplish a real-world objective.
I'm guilty of breaking my own rule but as a guideline you should always scrutinize the bullet points in your resume and ask the following:
1.) What message am I sending to the interviewer or reader?
2.) How does this fit in/help the firm I am recruiting with?
3.) Does what I have stated spark further conversation?
On point 3 your above bullet point should spark further discussion if you're with a firm that deals with midstream businesses or is a midstream company. You bring significant amount of knowledge to the table if you can speak intelligibly about this sector in addition to being able to model.
Good Luck!
*EDIT: Rather than state "Advisor to..." over and over again just state "Fortune 500 Healthcare company" or something to that affect. Most people should be able to tell based on your description you were participating in an advisory capacity.
