Please KILL my Resume

Dear WSO,

I am an undergraduate student at NYU and I want you guys to absolutely destroy my resume and then throw it into the lake like it's another day in the bullpen. If you guys ask why BB to Boutique, it's because I realized after recruiting that I wanted IB so now I'm gunning for FT Recruiting. Thanks!

PS My resume isn't PDF'd because Razume is down and I could only upload a word document my computer at work is screwed up.

What turned you off about Equity Research? Personally I wouldn't ever throw away an ER opportunity for banking, unless you really like it or are chasing money. It's not too late to reconsider signing off the next two years of your life.

Otherwise, I have no changes to suggest. Unless you're socially awkward and have no people skills you would be hard pressed not to get a premier banking job with this kind of record.

Resume looks great to me.

Keep pounding the pavement and talking to people as much as you can. There are still a few more weeks this summer.

Hey take it to the bank I really appreciate your constructive comments. I think that after working in equity research for one year I finally realized (much to my chagrin), that sell side research is indeed a dying industry. I hate to say it but it is an absolute fact. The Chinese wall ruined the industry because it cut off the bankers from the researchers. Goldman was the only largely profitable research division, but that was only because they used their prop trading segment to trade their own ideas, so then the researchers would get a cut from the trade. However, as I am sure you know, prop trading is being highly regimented so the only profitable research platform is being consolidated. Please do not kill the messenger, this is a dumb college kid's opinion.

I think the research industry is moving to an "all you can eat" model where you get the research after using a prospective firm's other services. Sort of like a toy in a happy meal haha I think Zach's actually produces a very top of the line research platform especially for the industrials sector, which I was fortunate enough to follow for one year.

Also, I want to be around more young people and everyone in research is old and a majority have children. So I can't usually grab a beer or any drink after work because my coworkers have true responsibilities unlike myself haha

Please, if anyone can critique my résumé I would appreciate it!!!

Thank you man! I was wondering if anyone else on this board had feedback for me? I was really hoping to get several responses. Be completely honest! Thanks WSO!

Hey CRE, pretty weird comment. What do you think about my resume?

Ya, incredibly bored.

Random thoughts:

  1. Good look on the M&I resume format. It's a classic and I use the same one.

  2. Thank you for using an Oxford comma. I respect you more immediately.

  3. 10 years of club soccer? I like it. What position?

  4. All dicking around aside, AQM, your resume looks terrific. Perhaps the only suggestion I would give is to show your specific contributions to specific deals, if you can, but that would probably push you past 1 page. Maybe save space by cutting the specifics from your activities (How many years you've been involved, the specific authors and filmmakers you like, etc.) and I would poll the audience here if you should actually list Excel as a skill (It should be assumed.)

Still, well done, my friend.
