Quick Question - Is the M&I template used that much?

Is the Mergers and Inquisitions template the one everyone is using nowadays? I'm thinking about switching to that format even though I would need to cut out some leadership.... but the conciseness is good, yes?

I personally don't like it. In my mind, the moment you look identical to everyone else, the more you sacrifice differentiation. I actually got repeated compliments on my resume formatting from almost every single person at my Morgan superdays (S&T and IBD), and I put it together entirely myself.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

Could you kindly share your resume so that prospective monkeys can get some idea of differentiated one?

Thanks for the responses-- But if the recruiters are burning through 100 resumes a minute, wouldn't there be less points for originality?

and hahah yeah I share in sungju's curiosity

No thanks, I don't even like sharing it with friends at school. If you post yours I'll give feedback, but judging by how well I've done I'm more than content keeping mine to myself at this point.

I'd just really encourage you to try a cleaner, refined layout you can come up with that still allows you to convey your critical information in an articulate, professional manner.

kmzzAnother quick question (hopefully wont have to make a new thread) I was looking at the Dartmouth MBA resume book and a lot of them had brief descriptions of the firms they worked for (given that they weren't brand name). Thoughts?

Can you post an example?

Here's Darden 08 book (too lazy to upload tuck): http://student.darden.virginia.edu/DPEC/documents/DPEN2008Resumes.pdf exs:

MCG Capital Corporation Arlington, VA Mid-market debt and equity principal investor primarily specializing in high yield debt within the Media, Technology, and Telecommunications industries.

Energetics Inc. Columbia, MD A technology consulting firm focusing on energy, infrastructure, and strategic partnership developmen

Benedetto, Gartland & Company New York, NY; Westport, CT Benedetto, Gartland & Company is an investment banking boutique that specializes in the placement of institutional investor capital with select private equity and hedge funds.

So my Q is as an UG, would adding a description be okay?

If you think that your stats and experiences are better than those of the other applicants then you want the reviewers to be able to directly compare them, so you want to use the standard format. If the content of your resume is equal to or worse than that of your competition's you may want to risk a different format.

That's fine. but keep the description as short as possible. I saw someone include like 6 lines. It shouldn't be more than 1 or 2 of italicized writing tops. Use your bullet points/details to get to the other stuff.

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."
