Resume Advise, Big 4 Audit (with long break) to IB

Who I am:
- Graduated from one of the major uni's in UK
- Completed 3 years of financial services sector audit at a Big 4 company
- Sadly, I had to leave shortly but now I seem to have lost almost 2year and 8 months because of idle time before and after starting the army. (i'm now 4 month unemployed since being discharged)
- CFA Level 2 candidate (took exams last week)

Where I want to go:
- Somewhere front office where I can leverage my ACA to go to, so logically I would think this would be anywhere in research (company or credit analysis), or corporate finance/M&A

I did Big 4 audit and don't work in finance, but the glaring thing to me is that you don't just "seem to lose" 2 years and 8 months - I can see using the CFA prep after your discharge as a good explanation for the four months unemployed, but what about the other time? Yes things are tough out there, but your biggest ostacle would seem to be crafting a good response to that question. Also audit does suck, but those a-holes will always have you back.

I'll let someone else handle the breaking into finance angle.

Thanks for the comments the 4 moths before I started my military service was spent preparing for getting into the airforce as a translator soldier (because by default people are sent to ground force, and to go to the navy or airforce, you need to take separate exams and interviews) So it was a combination of preparation and actual idle time waiting for the government bureaucracy to handle things quickly to get me drafted.

all in all the problem is, if it's 2years and 8 months without actual relevant experience. I feel that I would be at a disadvantage even compared to who has just finished their 3 years in audit.

Scott Irish, can I ask what transfer you made after Big 4 Audit and how you got about that route?
