Resume Help - Senior civil engineering student

I am currently a senior civil engineering student attending non-target trying to breakthrough into ER, or buy side if possible I tried to adjust my resume towards finance as much as possible. Would removing the skills/languages etc to provide some room for a summary be beneficial?Should I remove GPA? help please, be harsh if necessary lol!

A couple of things to start you off:

  1. First off follow the mergers and inquisition format (even if you're not targetting IB)

  2. Get rid of microsoft office and matlab on your skills section

  3. Quantify your experiences as much as possible! You did this for your project management experience but not so much for your engineering internship. Try to show what impact YOUR actions had, e.g cost estimation model led to X% projected savings

  4. A summary generally adds little/no value when applying for finance jobs so it's fine to leave this bit out completely.

Start off with these steps and see how you get on

+1 on everything Llama said, particularly finding another template. Your existing format waste's a lot of space. I'd recommend you take a look at the WSO format as well as the M&I noted above. I actually made 2 resumes, one of each format, and got the opinion of others before selecting what to apply with. Here's a link for WSO template.:

I'm going to ignore any format/waste of space comments since those will be much better, should you choose to use one of the templates.

1 - Quantify your experience

2 - Do you have a Major + Cumulative GPA? If so, if your Major GPA higher? If the answer is "yes" to both of these, add both on your resume.

3 - You are a little on the light side when it comes to your achievements. Those "affiliations" you have, did you ever get any awards? ever made a presentation? participated in a conference? Volunteer experience? ANYTHING that shows either leadership experience, or results. if so, add these on.

4 - After comment (3) has been addressed, you should have more substance on your resume. This will allow you to shrink the mock portfolio section, maybe to a one liner. I'm going to be blunt here, with a 3.0 GPA from a non-target, if you have to elaborate that much on mock experience, they'll laugh. Populate your resume with content mentioned in (3), if it's still looking dry, I'd recommend you start joining clubs/ECs at your school and get some better content before graduating in Spring.

Best of Luck!
