Should I include a job I haven't started in my resume?
I missed out on 2014 graduate programme applications deadlines, so I took on a 1-year contract in middle office temporarily while I start applying for 2015 graduate programmes now.
However, I have yet to start work. Can I still include this 1-year position in my resume? Or will this make it seem like I'm a person who is uncommitted?
If you have a legit offer that you have accepted, you should put it on your resume. I would list the expected start date or otherwise highlight that you have not yet started there but will. I would also put a prospective description of what you will be doing (but keep it simple).

when do you start versus when the admissions process ends? if there's some overlap, put that shit on your resume after your first day and then apply. on the off chance the admission speople call to verify you and the employers say "what? he hasn't started!" you're fucked. don't put it on yet

I am in the process of applying for summer analyst positions at a variety of firms. My resume is up to date except for the most recent internship I have been hired for.
Starting January I will be working in a public finance group at an investment bank through May. Should I include this job experience on my resume since I will be starting the summer analyst position with this job already completed?

I've accepted an internship at a boutique IB for winter break, but the deadline for some of the summer internships falls before my winter internship starts. My dilemma is that, by the time of my summer internship, I will have had relevant experience at a boutique bank, improving my chances as a candidate. But again, this would occur after my summer application.
How can I reflect such a future, accepted position on my resume?
Ask your recruiter what the best way to present it is (closer to the resume drop). That way, you don't have to include it on your resume, but he/she will know about it.
Or leave a cheeky little line under a title like "Achievements",listing among other things, "Accepted into xxx M&A Autumn Internship"
Unfortunately, I go to a non-target, so there would be no recruiting on-campus. I appreciate the tip though.
I would probably go with a 1-liner towards the bottom of your resume (in the skills/other section) just saying that you have accepted an IB internship to start XX/2009 or whenever in the XX group - if it's M&A or what have you. I wouldn't put it in work experience as that would look a bit odd considering you don't work there yet, but it is definitely worth mentioning in the resume especially considering you come from a non-target and that internship can definitely be a strong supporter of your candidacy. I think that 1-liner can't hurt you, but it could definitely help you, if only a little bit.

I'm doing an SA stint at an BB in Hong Kong this summer. As far as I know the HR shares the SAs' resumes for accelerated recruiting.
So my question is, would it be acceptable to put my SA stint in my resume although it hasn't started yet?
And if I were to include the SA stint, it'll be presented as follows (without any bulletin points): BB Bank Hong Kong, China Investment Banking Summer Analyst – (Group) Jun 2011 – Aug 2011

I think it's fine to put the internship on your resume even though it hasn't started yet- it's still valuable information for potential employers. I have the same thing on my resume, only difference is that for the dates I put "Starting June 2011" instead of giving a range. What you have looks good though.

I just wanted to share my thoughts on putting future experience on your resume when applying for an SA position. When I was applying, I got very very mixed reviews about this, but in the end decided to just go for it as it was my only finance experience that was on there. I put work experience in reverse chronological order, so my future experience came first. In ALL of my interviews, I was asked about what I had done there (they hadn't even realized it didn't happen yet), so I had to admit I hadn't done anything yet, but I had a good idea of what I was going to be doing and explained that to them.
So in short, for an SA position, it is OK to put it on there, even in the first work experience slot, but be prepared to talk about what you will be doing there, if only very briefly.
agree. i landed a SA position at an BB, and I put a part time job that I'm going to start (in the coming weeks) and the interviewers did ask, and one ED even told me specifically that he was glad that I had put in as that was highly relevant to what I will be doing.
Interesting experience......so you didnt even specify the employment period since its going to happen in future? So basically, you couldnt even get a recommendation or referral from that employer then without working at there first

Listed it as "Selected as XXXX for the upcoming fall semester" or whatever situation you're in
So you did not mention anything else? Just name, position, timeframe and "Selected as XXX for the upcoming fall semester"?
It was for my school's investment fund so I'm not sure if you'd want to do that for an internship or part time. I'd for sure mention it in the email though
I just included it as it's own work experience in the M&I format

The way I saw it listed on a group of Columbia (I think?) MBA resumes was "Accepted 20xx Fall Internship." It was standard wording throughout the group. And you've got to be a complete moron to list "expected" duties.
